CHILDREN’S VILLAGE

Children’s Village is a trauma responsive safe haven restoring trust and hope, while providing a safe haven of shelter and care for girls ages birth to 18 and boys ages birth to 13 who have been abused, neglected or are experiencing family crisis. Children’s Village also has a Crisis Nursery for infants and toddlers at risk or in family crisis.

The children come to Children’s Village through state and private placements with a large percentage of private placements from families in crisis due to homelessness. Since less than 5% of the funding is received through the state of Idaho, NUCA is happy to offer our support to make it possible for Children’s Village to make a positive impact on these children at no cost to their families.   Services include therapy, education, nutritional meals and snacks, transportation to school of origin, customized shelter and residential plans, transportation to medical/dental/vision/therapy appointments, activities and outings to entertain and educate, clothing, and personal hygiene items.  Proceeds from the Dozer Day donation help Children’s Village to provide for 100 percent of the child’s care, including stability, safety and love — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS

Nearly 1 in 5 students fails to graduate on time in Washington. Many of these young people are facing challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Communities In Schools is dedicated to empowering students to stay in school and on a path to a brighter future. In partnership with public schools facing the greatest dropout challenges, Communities In Schools brings resources and volunteers into the school to help struggling students get back on track.  The staff, site coordinators, mentors and volunteers do whatever it takes to ensure that all kids—regardless of the challenges they may face—have what they need to realize their potential.  Working directly inside 21 schools in Spokane County, The Communities in Schools program connects kids to caring adults and community resources designed to help them succeed.

What sets Communities In Schools apart is the way they coordinate a comprehensive range of services to support all the needs of these students so they come to school ready to learn.  Proceeds from the Dozer Day donation help to provide services that place a Communities In Schools site coordinator in a school to assess needs, make a plan, and coordinate intensive interventions for the kids most at risk for dropping out, along with services geared to the entire school. The site coordinator works with local community service partners such as social service agencies, businesses, health care providers and volunteers to connect students with needed one-to-one resources such as academic help, physical and mental health care, mentoring, or college and career preparation help.  Communities in Schools also provides such basic needs as food and clothing, and after-school enrichment programs.
